Fishing trips are sometimes a once in a lifetime experience, so finding the perfect lodge will make it all that much more special. There are many aspects to take into consideration before booking a trip. Alaska fishing lodges can include a variety of accommodations, as well as different packages suited to fit most people's needs. Other considerations include the type of fishing offered, lodging choices, meals provided, airport transportation, and the overall atmosphere of the lodge.

Accommodations- A particular type of lodging can be the key decision maker of the entire trip. Some people choose to have a little cabin, all to themselves, with seclusion being the main element. Other travelers enjoy meeting new people and look forward to the lodge setting. Fishing lodges sometimes offer both types of housing. Multi-level lodges have the atmosphere of a hotel, while cabins are a home away from home. Cabins generally come with their own kitchen included. Lodge dining is usually more of a restaurant setting. Fishing lodges located near the water might also have houseboats for rent.

To and From the Airport- Providing transportation to and from the airport is almost always an option fishing lodges have. There are many lodges that are so remote, it would be extremely difficult to get to if no transportation was provided. If there isn't a shuttle bus that runs a regular route between the lodge and the airport, then scheduled trips are the other option. When traveling, it's a good idea to find out if transportation needs to be scheduled in advance.

Added Options- Many fishing lodges have more to offer than just fishing. Often, there are package deals, which include all accommodations, all meals, fishing equipment and licenses or stamps, plus day trips. These day trips can include bear viewing, kayaking, or going on a float trip. For lodges that have the ability, they will offer cleaning, packaging, freezing and boxing of fish caught while staying at the lodge. This will ready the fish for the trip home.

Cast or Fly Fishing- Fly and cast fishing are the two general types at fishing lodges in Alaska. There is fly fishing on the rivers and the main types of fish caught are; lingcod, rainbow trout, yelloweye rockfish, Alaska salmon, silver salmon, king salmon, halibut, sockeye salmon, and chum salmon.

There are guides available to take people out by air or sea for their fishing adventure. If people don't have their own equipment available, many are able to rent the needed equipment from the fishing lodge. This will make it easier, since it won't have to be transported on the plane, for people flying to their destination.

Food- When meals are offered by lodges, they can either be figured in with the price of the room, as a package deal of their own, or there might be a restaurant in the lodge.

Alaska fishing lodges come in such a great variety, it is easy for someone to find one that has all amenities and accommodations desired for that perfect fishing trip.
